This is the first year that Mother’s Day applies to me, technically. I’ve been a mom to my fur babies for a while now- today is my cat’s 12th birthday! However, on this Mother’s Day I am also a mom to my adorable son, Zachery.
I had so many years before to be a selfish person so being a mom was a completely different thing to me. Luckily, it has worked out, and I’m sure it almost always does. There is some maternal gene I think we carry and it goes unnoticed until you really have to use it. And now, nearly a year later I can’t imagine being anything other than a mom.
I am so fortunate to be able to spend time with my son and encourage his development throughout the day. And while he learns a lot, it is me who learns even more. My eyes still water on occasion when I watch him sleep, and sometimes when I sing lullabies and when he smiles at me. Zach has been the best gift ever and I am so thankful that I have been chosen to be his mother.
I hope all the mothers out there have a wonderful day today. And even if you don’t get the opportunity to do something special today, being a mom is a special thing you get to celebrate every day!
